GCSE Media assessment: learner response

www: This is a very solid first media assessment that shows a good understanding of how meanings are communicated in media products. with some work on exam technique  we can push towards a higher level next time.

Ebi:  Written English is an area  to focus on: your paragraphing is good but spelling is sometimes to focus on -particularly media terminology.

- exam technique : read the question carefully  see q1 as an example . also, in q5  you needed to cover both aspect of the question.

3. q2 i was able to find the connotation pretty easily.

4. q3 I scored lower on this question because I didn't read the question properly.

5. Analyse the Heat advert featuring Beyoncé to show how connotations are

created to communicate meaning. [12 marks]

Direct address of main image from the advert with Beyoncé making eye contact with

audience. this is also shown in in the middle image which said "catch the fever". this  image also has connotation to a seductive point The image also has connotations of class and wealth with the costume appearing to

be luxury or designer label, fitting in with the connotations created by the serifThe upper-case Serif typography for the text ‘HEAT’ suggests class, style and

sophistication to go alongside the suggestive image.

 The typography for ‘Catch the fever’ and ‘The first fragrance by Beyonce’ is more

unusual with a serif style but with connotations of fantasy or magic (perhaps to

suggest the mixing of a magical new fragrance).Advert is dominated by red – connotations of romance, seduction, sex appeal and

fire/heat (the name of the product). Creates a powerful effect on the audience.
